80 YEARS OF PASSION, INNOVATION, AND CYCLING A FAMILY STORY, BORN IN DIJON

It all began in 1946 in Dijon. It was there, in his native Burgundy, that Gaston Lapierre laid the foundations for a cycling and industrial adventure that would span generations, equip the greatest champions, and stand the test of time. In his modest workshop—relying on the affordable steel available in the post-war era—he built a company that reflected his own values: family-oriented, independent, and deeply committed to the bicycle. Over time, the business evolved, expanding its production and market reach to become a benchmark brand in France.
A new chapter began in 1996 when Gilles Lapierre, the third generation of the family, took the helm. Under his leadership, Lapierre accelerated its international growth and broadened its scope—moving from mountain biking (MTB) into Enduro, Downhill (DH), and road cycling, and eventually into electric bikes in the early 2000s.
Eighty years after its inception, the company’s independent, family-driven spirit still shines brightly at its Dijon facility on Rue Edmond Voisenet. While the business has grown, scaled up, and conquered new markets, it remains anchored by its unique family history and its Burgundian roots.

COMPETITION AS A DRIVING FORCE

Starting in the 1990s, with the explosion of mountain biking, Lapierre turned competition into a true laboratory. Far more than just a showcase for sales, racing became a space to conceive, refine, and optimize bicycle frames and technologies.
Success followed at the highest levels—most notably with Nicolas Vouilloz, whose achievements left an indelible mark on the history of mountain biking. Then came new generations of champions, alongside the rise of disciplines such as Enduro, Downhill (DH), and road cycling. Athletes like Thibaut Pinot, Loïc Bruni, Isabeau Courdurier, Cecilie Uttrup-Ludwig, and Cassandre Beaugrand—not to mention numerous professional teams—have all helped to elevate the profile of the Lapierre brand and its history.
Yet, this presence at the highest level has never been an end in itself. Instead, it has allowed the brand to test its ideas and innovations against the realities of the terrain—constantly pushing boundaries and transforming races into a laboratory for success. And that success is measured in the hundreds: dozens of world championship titles, countless international victories, and even several Olympic gold medals!
